Shape Development Basics

This were my first steps in shape development. It seemed to be very simple to combine a cylinder with a box. But soon there was a endless variety of options, where the best one had to be chosen.

We compared differnt handles and looked into their applications. It turned out that each handle has specific features which supporting their specific use case.

I followed two combinations to explore their design potentials.

We took our drawings to the workshop to build physical models to further redefine their shapes.

The final shape consists of three surfaces. A well defined and minimal tensed top surface is combined with an organic, bold shape on the bottom. They are connected with a racetrack which was interrupted at the handle for ergonomic reasons.
